What information is required to tell American Express of a bereavement?

To ensure a smooth process, try to have the following information on hand when notifying American Express of a death:

  • Both the original or a certified copy of the Death Certificate
  • A completed Bereavement Notificat
  • Details of the deceased, such as name, gender, DoB and American Express Membership Number
  • A copy of the Will is required if there is a credit balance on the account in excess of £1000
  • If a Grant of Probate has been issued, a copy of this is required if there is a credit balance on the account in excess of £1000
  • A copy of the Grant of Administration
  • Third party contact details, such as name, gender, DoB, password, address, telephone number and signature.

What Happens Next?

Once American Express have received the required documentation, they will then make arrangements to close the account.
