It doesn’t matter whether it was expected or not, it still hurts
The grief is so real, so sharp. No matter whether it was expected or came suddenly, stealing away the life of someone you love, the situation is confusing and frustrating and just plain heartbreaking. Life Ledger knows and understands that, which is why we want to help. You came to our site to find information about how to notify the Passport Office of a death, so let’s begin right there.
How do I notify the Passport Office of a death?
Firstly, have you registered with the Tell Us Once service that the Government offers? If you have, then the Service will be informing them, and you won’t need to do anything else.
If you aren’t able to use Tell Us Once, then you need to complete this online form; you can complete it online, but you do need to print it off and sign the form as it will then be sent to the address below together with the deceased’s passport. They ask that the top right corner of the passport be cut before you send it to them. You will be able to decide what you want to happen with the passport, either to be disposed of by the Passport Office, or have it returned to you.
- The address to return the passport whilst in the UK:
Customer Service Management Team
HM Passport Office
PO Box 767
Southport      PR8 9PW
- If you are not in the UK, send or take the form to the nearest British Embassy, High Commission or Consulate. (For more information see http://www.gov.uk/world/embassies)
Life Ledger offers the recently bereaved help with notifying companies of the loss of their loved one. Whilst we are unable to assist with the notification to the Passport Office, we know that there will be a lot of other companies to whom notice must be made.
Register the death within the Life Ledger website, verify your identity and upload a copy of the death certificate, and answer questions that each company need responses to in order to begin their processes. Once done, you just press Send and the notification is sent. It’s simple and easy to do, and there is no limit to the amount of companies to whom notifications can be made.
What happens next?
With the Passport Office, they will carry out your wishes by either returning your loved one’s passport to you or destroying it.
In a more general sense, Life Ledger knows how confusing it can be to try to get through this situation. And to help with that, they have created a simple guide that will show you a path through. Some steps may not be necessary, but even so it will help to see them set out.
You will see that one of the biggest tasks that needs to be done is to notify the many companies, which is where Life Ledger can really help you. We can notify multiple companies so that you can better spend your time focusing on other, more important tasks.
Of course by now you’re looking for the payment terms, but there aren’t any: our service is free to use, we don’t ask for any credit details, and you won’t be sent an invoice. All you will receive is peace of mind that it is taken care of.
